Paper 1C — core specification
Tests specification statements that are not bold and do not carry a “C” reference. Questions can come from all four chemistry areas and may include multiple choice, short answers, calculations and extended responses.
Free 4CH1 Paper 1C and Paper 2C question papers, mark schemes and examiner reports from 2019 to 2025 — plus a specification-led guide to core content, bold “C” statements, written practical skills and Edexcel exam technique.
Choose a year, exam series and paper code to download the question paper, official mark scheme and examiner report when available. The archive also includes regional 1CR and 2CR papers supplied in the spreadsheet.
The qualification uses two externally assessed written papers. The marks are added directly to make a total out of 180; the papers are not scaled.

Tests all content, including the bold statements carrying a “C” reference. Those statements take selected sub-topics into greater depth, so Paper 2 preparation must include both core and C content.
Use these four areas as your revision map. Both papers can draw questions from any of them.
States of matter; elements, compounds and mixtures; atomic structure; the Periodic Table; formulae, equations and calculations; ionic, covalent and metallic bonding; and electrolysis.
Group 1 and Group 7; gases in the atmosphere; the reactivity series; extraction and uses of metals; acids, alkalis and titrations; salt preparation; and chemical tests.
Energetics, rates of reaction, and reversible reactions and equilibria — including calculations, energy-level reasoning and practical interpretation.
Organic formulae and naming; crude oil; alkanes and alkenes; alcohols; carboxylic acids; esters; and synthetic polymers.
These are the two board-specific premium routes for 4CH1 students.

Paper 1C lasts 2 hours, carries 110 marks and tests the core specification statements that are not bold and have no C reference. Paper 2C lasts 1 hour 15 minutes, carries 70 marks and tests all content, including bold C statements.
They are regional versions included in the supplied past-paper collection. Use the paper code shown on your school entry information; if you are practising, both versions assess the same qualification structure.
Yes. The question papers, official mark schemes and available examiner reports in the selector are free to open. The solved-papers product adds full working, model answers and teaching explanations.
Practical skills are embedded in the specification and assessed through written questions. You should be able to plan investigations, identify variables, analyse results and evaluate accuracy, reliability and methods.
Paper 1C contributes 110 marks and Paper 2C contributes 70 marks, giving 180 marks in total. Pearson states that the paper marks are added without scaling, and grades are awarded from 9 to 1.
