IGCSE exam preparation advice
Why students cannot rely only on IGCSE mark schemes
IGCSE mark schemes are useful, but they are not designed to teach students how to write answers. They are mainly written so teachers and examiners can mark student responses consistently. That is why many mark-scheme answers are short, blunt, and difficult for students to understand.
A student may see one or two key words in a mark scheme and think that is enough. In the real exam, however, the answer often needs a clear idea, accurate scientific language, and the correct link between cause and effect. This is especially important in IGCSE Biology and IGCSE Chemistry, where students often know the content but still lose marks because they do not phrase the answer in the expected way.
Mark schemes often show the answer, but not the thinking
In many questions, the mark scheme gives the final answer without showing how a student should reach it. This is a major problem in Chemistry calculations, graph questions, practical questions, and structured Biology explanations. Students need to see the steps, not just the final word or number.
Without a proper explanation, students may keep repeating past papers without improving. They check the answer, move on, and then make the same mistake again in the next paper because they never understood what the examiner was really looking for.
Why I created these solved past paper courses
After watching students struggle with exam questions for many years, I created these IGCSE solved past paper courses to remove the gap between the mark scheme and the student. The aim is not just to give an answer. The aim is to show students how to write answers that actually score marks.
Each solved paper includes expert-written answers and video walkthroughs. In the videos, students can solve along with me, pause, repeat, and understand why the answer is written in that exact way. This gives students a stronger reference than a normal mark scheme and helps them prepare more confidently for the 2026 and 2027 exams.
The goal is confidence before the exam
By the time students reach the final weeks before the exam, they should not be guessing how to answer. They should have a clear model of what a high-quality answer looks like. That is the purpose of this hub: to guide students to the Biology or Chemistry solved past paper course that gives them that model.
